December 15

Day 15.  December is halfway over!

The answer to yesterday's quote is The Bear Pit.  Flynn and Dale are having fun in the bath Smile

Today's Guess the Quote:

"Truly obedient would mean you managed not to call me several names up here," he tapped Dale's forehead lightly, "while working in here."  He held the book up and Dale caught the flint in his eyes.  "So just how obedient are we talking about?"

Touring with Ranger:

Today’s Christmas virtual tour is to Osbourne House on the Isle of Wight.

You’ll need to take the drive on/drive off ferry from Southampton to reach this small and lovely island off England’s south coast but it’s a short ride!:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FTf4-6HHuc
Once there, you can easily find the house itself right on the sea coast. Queen Victoria’s private family home and favourite residence, it’s a bit different from any of the palaces. Tour the house itself including the Queen’s private rooms, https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/osborne/
And:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-Yh9nD86FI
Then take one of the horse and carriages that pass through the grounds to see the swiss cottage – the life sized playhouse of the nine children for whom this was home. Their garden allotments are lined up near by, each one marked with their name, and the earthworks fort built for them to play with. The cottage and the children’s possessions still remaining there have recently had a major restoration.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36JQt7_l6xw
The house is currently decorated for Christmas – and Queen Victoria and Prince Albert did much to create the modern Christmas, including starting the fashion for Christmas trees!

If you’re on the Isle of Wight you really shouldn’t miss the Blackgang Chine: (do mind the dinosaurs and the pirates)
https://blackgangchine.com/park-map/
Or take a stroll through the Ventnor botanic gardens since the island has a micro climate and some remarkable things grow there!
https://www.botanic.co.uk/visit-the-garden/virtual-tour/
Or if you wanted, you could even visit a Roman villa, where the mosaics are not only still there but still have colour to them 2000 years later.

Then to finish off with, take a walk down the old town of Shanklin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqlRwZEwv8g and try eggs on toast and a mince pie at one of the tea shops, or try one of the many excellent restaurants there: (lots of fish)

You would bump into Karl and Sam at Luath’s building in The Corner of 5th. Sam is the main man at the front desk and Karl is one of the night guards.

Appetite is eyes as much as stomach - something Paul was taught by his grandmother in Where the Stock Pot Sings.

Shanklin looks delightful. I've not visited the Isle of Wight and I think that might change next time I make it to the UK to see family. Thanks for these links.

Quite pleased to still be Hammer with a revisit to this fun quiz. Did anyone find their name changed? Those who have joined us since it was first posted, there's an option to add your horse name in the profile settings if desired.

Cheers

The possible answer to who retires at 26 occurred to me last night as I was falling asleep.  I checked it out this morning.

Gareth - Washington Square

26 seemed way too early for any of the family to have retired, but just the right age for a horse.
