Thanks for this wonderful trip down memory lane! I am loving the trivia questions.

Can I just add that Parting Glass is a traditional Scottish song? The High Kings do a lovely rendition of it, but there are many others and it's well worth checking out what other musicians have done with the song. I've heard it was the most popular parting song in Scotland before Burns wrote Auld Lang Syne. (I guess the Scots are good at parting!) (-;

Hi Trish - I'm absolutely LOVING hunting down the trivia answers.  I came up with a possible second answer to Dec. 10th, # 3

Cobble Hill:

The family room was full, and so was the kitchen. When they were all here the ranch was stuffed with men in all directions, from early morning when the oldest members of the family, who slept the least and started their day the earliest, tended to gather around the kitchen table to talk.

Although they weren't really holding court.

I know I would.  I might even get up early to join 'the elders' - Wade, James, and Niall.

It's cold that time of year, so I'll be where it's warmest. Hopefully, snuggled up with Flynn in his bed! Wink

Oh Cat - with that big wood stove in the kitchen, I'm sure it would be plenty warm enough - and since the oldest members of the family gather there, I'm sure Paul would make certain they were all comfortable.

That being said - no reason to move if you're happy and warm where you are.   Very Happy

Hmm - makes one wonder: What's warmer? A woodstove or Flynn?!

Solely for the sake of the general knowledge of our group, I am willing to experiment and let you know which of our FCR characters are warmest. I'm generous that way.
Just sayin'

Sas - what a lovely, thoughtful gesture.

However, I  think many of us have some pretty strong views about which of our favorite Tops or brats are warmest, and would, shall I say, RESIST any attempt to supply empirical data that contradicts what we know in our hearts to be true.

Just sayin'    Very Happy

Well, in that case, I suppose there is nothing for it except for each of us to do our own experimenting again and again and again and again until such time that we are certain we all have the knowledge we need.

Now THAT'S a plan I think we can all agree on.   cheers

What a wonderful idea, Sas. I'm all for experimenting. But I am also sure that Flynn will warm me up ALL over, whereas a wood stove only warms the side facing it.  Yes, I know the room warms up, but not nearly enough to make me perspire. Wink

Trish - I'm having the time of my life with these trivia questions.  As always, re-reading invariably turns up something new.  This time, it was reading The Bear Pit where I found something surprising about Wade.

I don't know why I thought that Wade was tall and lean, but in fact, Wade is described in The Bear Pit as being the shortest member of the family (at the time when Bear was injured by a polar bear) and is barrel chested, which I take to mean stocky.

Really surprised me.

It's an impression I'd long held, too, though I  think that was because dear Tom reminded much of the Wade and he was a tall, lanky man. He loved that character.

Dec 12th, #2.  James Hamilton didn't have chestnut hair.  "the man's (hair) was a reddish blond and beginning to thin on top" [The Landing Strip]

Oh well, he did have by the time he and Luath met Philip and Miguel in Cobble Hill.  Hair colour is an imprecise art. Wink

Reddish blond seems pretty close to chestnut for me.
